CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

GENTLE YOGA - This class offers non-strenuous, slower-paced, well measured stretches.

BASICS & BEYOND - The basic postures are presented in challenging ways with a focus on the fundamentals of yoga. Classes address the needs of students who are new to yoga or those who might even have an advanced practice. Be prepared with adjustments and the use of props for proper alignment. Don’t let the name fool you, you might  sweat and work harder.

DEEP STRETCH for all practitioners -  Focused stretching allows muscles to relax and lengthen, which puts less strain on the skeletal system and reduces tension throughout the body. It is a slow-paced style of yoga with postures, or asanas, that are held for longer periods of time.
DEEP YOGA - Basic to challenging poses of which are held longer taken into considerations the necessary steps or tools to help you go deep in your physical 'asana' practice.

YOGA FLOW All Levels / VINYASA - Poses run together and become like a dance. VINYASA FLOW -Vinyasa classes are energetic, flowing classes synchronizing breath with movement. Build strength, flexibility, and concentration. Cleanse the body and calm the mind. Vinyasa classes do not follow a set sequence of postures. Each class is unique and will vary from teacher to teacher. You can always expect a great workout combined with breath work (pranayama).

HATHA MIX - HATHA MIX:
"Hatha Mix" classes are adaptable for practitioners of all levels at noon Wednesdays and Fridays. Join Annie and "strive for five": (5) namaskars (sun/moon salutations) will be offered, in addition to a five-minute period of constructive rest at the close of each 45 to 50-minute flow. Mixed with traditional Hatha principles, explore fundamentals from a variety of yoga styles, from ashtanga to restorative, as well as pranayama (breath exercises) to deepen your yogic experience. Find both strength and restfulness through this all levels practice designed to strengthen your core and more optimally align your spine. "Take five" to quiet your mind, and open your heart.

POWER / ASHTANGA (Primary) Emphasis  - Ashtanga is a system of yoga transmitted to the modern world by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (1915-2009). This method of yoga involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures - a process producing intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind.

It was curiosity on 'what's going on on that mat with my body moving on it' and the invitation of her husband, Steve that led Henna to yoga. What truly brought her to commit is the fluidity, the grace and the athleticism of the asanas and what inspired her first is how it opens the body and mind in a natural and healthy way. She practiced almost every day for years, here and overseas, and such helped her train her mind to be present, focused and equanimous regardless of the inevitable vicissitudes of life. She believes that gaining control of the nervous system is something one can master. Henna is twice a certified Ashtanga teacher. She took her first (intensive) Ashtanga Yoga Teachers Training in June 2002 with master yoga practitioner, Mr Doug Swenson (www.sadhanayogachi.com or www.dougswenson.net). In August 2008, Henna finished the Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training with one of Kansas City's Ashtanga founders, Kathleen Kastner (and Wade Mortenson). She just recently attended the 2018 International Yoga Confluence in San Diego in May 2018 with master teachers in Ashtanga. In May 2005, she completed her Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training with the renowned Mr Max Strom (www.maxstrom.com) and in 2012, Henna completed her Kundalini & Children's Teacher Training under Shakta Kaur Khalsa. Henna has done workshops like anatomy / adjustments and cues etc. She has been practicing for 20 years and teaching for over 16.
Henna owns nKCYOGA and CULTURAL WANDERER and seriously loves to travel. She has been to 132 countries and territories and has started holding TOURS overseas; the website of which is www.culturalwanderer.com

Amy has been practicing yoga for 15 years and teaching for 10. She enjoys all types of yoga from Hatha to Vinyasa & Ashtanga. July of 2015 she finished her 200 hour certification. Amy truly believes in the healing power of yoga and loves to teach others what she knows while continuing to learn and grow her practice.

TRULY loves and breathes Yoga! She has practiced almost every single day since she discovered it in January 2007. Her classes are focused on engaging the 'breaths or prana' to deepen one's practice. Her passion for yoga ushered her to take a teaching certification under Max Strom's. She also owns peaceloveandyogakc.

Annie began exploring the benefits of yoga in college, after a car accident that caused cervical and thoracic strain. Through yoga she found pain relief, strength and more optimal alignment, as well as strategies for managing stress and anxiety. Annie studied Hatha Yoga with Candace Glass of St. Louis, MO's Southtown Yoga, and Sarah Edwards and Ellen Niedgringhaus of Bluebird Yoga in St. Charles, MO, earning her 200-hour RYT certification in 2017.

After roughly two decades of practicing primarily at home, Annie says discovering the NKCYOGA community has been a true blessing.
